5 Easy Vegetables to Grow on Your Indian Balcony

Farm to Balcony

Growing your own food is incredibly rewarding. If you have a sunny balcony (4+ hours of direct sun), you can easily grow the ingredients for your daily meals.

  • Tomatoes: Grow bags are perfect for cherry tomatoes. They need a trellis or stick for support.
  • Green Chillies: A staple in Indian cooking. Chillies love the heat and require well-draining soil.
  • Spinach (Palak): Can be grown in shallow, wide rectangular pots. Harvest the outer leaves and let the center grow.
  • Mint (Pudina): Very aggressive grower. Always plant mint in its own separate pot, otherwise, it will take over!
  • Curry Leaves (Kadi Patta): Requires a larger pot (12-14 inches) but will provide fresh aromatics for years.

Start with high-quality potting mix composed of garden soil, coco peat, and vermicompost in equal parts.
